The most cost-effective insurance is prevention. Train
and reward employees for preventing accidents. Lift from the legs. Take five
minute breaks each hour from sitting at the computer: do other work, flex
muscles, stretch lower back. Consider a $10-15 spot bonus for taking initiative
in correcting an unsafe condition. If employees work in several states or
overseas, check with insurance agent for proper coverage.
Home Business
Many businesses conducted from your home need to have specific
endorsements to provide coverage for any activities arising from the business. One very
common example of this is home day cares. Unless specifically endorsed to the homeowner's
policy, there is no coverage for day care liability. Call your agent if you are conducting
any type of business out of your home.
Scheduled Items
Review amount of coverage for valuable items at least every two years.
Scheduled items are your most valuable and are limited to no more than
the amount listed in your policy.
Delete items no longer valuable; add purchases keeping reciepts.
Don't overinsure computer equipment which has lower current replacement costs.
Unoccupied residences
Many homeowners' insurance policies
will not provide coverage for unoccupied residences. Insurers
feel that unoccupied residences pose an increased risk of fire and theft.
If you are on prolonged vacation, have two homes you live
in, or are trying to sell an unoccupied house, tell your
insurance agent immediately so that proper notification can
be made to the insurer.
